Black history and spirituality

"Is a people educated if they don't know the meaning of their history?"

The purpose of SoulViewWorld LLC/publishing is to promote and distribute Grandpa! Tell us a Story/Drinking from Ancient Wells Series, is that, as mentioned elsewhere, we are in the middle of a literary explosion, and we want to make a contribution to that major Black historical event.

We believe this Series will contribute to the building of an authentic African American history; the Game is the dynamic force in that history. We also believe that an authentic African American history grounded in our own experience and the experience of our Ancestors will free the minds of African Americans to be who we are. After all, the Game has been the salvation of Black people for the nearly 20 generations (400 years) that we have been in America. Our children, the Hip-hop generation, and their children are the newest links in that chain.

However, today it is very clear that a history of the Game is not being taught in our schools in a way that is rooted in our experiences and the experiences of our Ancestors. We believe that this lack of a history of the Game leaves a big void; a void that undermines self-pride, self-confidence and self-consciousness. This lack of a firm understanding of the foundation and origin of the Game is hurting Black people in general, and the Hip-hop generation in particular. We think that the Grandpa! Tell us a Story: Drinking from Ancient Wells /Series will help fill that void.

For example, in the 1920s, Blacks all over America were saying that they were a “new Negro,” there was a creative cultural explosion around that concept, and they declared war on Racism. They were slowed down in their fight by the Great Depression of the 1930s and the Second World War of the 1940s. What does that mean to Hip-hop Grandpa, who was born in the 1930s? It means that Hip-hop Grandpa’s generation, the children of the “New Negro, took up the fight beginning early in the 1950s, and created the Civil Rights Movement.

We, Hip-hop Grandpa's children, are of the generation born and raised during the whirlwind of changes generated by the Civil Rights Movement Game taking place between the mid-1950s and the early 1970s. It was a time when our father and mother’s generation was playing their game a hundred miles an hour to the tune of militant music and ideas. All of this made a deep impression on us, which made us the sons and daughters of the Civil Right movements.

Yet, we really could not comprehend the meaning of what went on before the Civil Rights Movement, even though we heard our parent’s complaining about racism, and saw them creating ways to change the way things had been. There was no history of the Game written from an African American point of view to give us any insight into the why and what-for of their actions.

Our parent’s generation was too busy using their game to fight for Black power (political) and Black soul (spiritual power), and creating a major Black historical event. As Artist in the process of creating a Super Game as they go, so to speak, they did not have the time or space to explain to us what they were doing and what it all meant. Our Generation realized that they were focused on what was wrong. It was left up to our generation to build something that is right in its place: We began our work in the early 1970s.

Starting with the foundation of their Games, Black Soul and Black Power, we created a Game to utilize the fast changes their Game generated. Thus, our generation used the concepts of Black Soul and Black Power to create the Hip-hop culture. It was into this world that our children were born; a Soul View World. Now our children, the Hip-hop Generation, are creating and playing their game as seen in the Hip-hop culture; their children are born in a AfroSacredStar world based on our Roots, Ancient West African Spirituality and Intellectuality. They will be adults in 2020, and celebrate the one hundredth anniversary of the "New Negro."

The way these generations of our family evolved through history, (1920s to the twenty-first century), and the Games they created and played shows a pattern of in our history that goes back to Ancient West Africa, and are retold in The Story of the Game Black People Play-Trilogy. It shows the way the history of the Game has changed the way we saw our lives and experienced our world. As we mentioned, is a people educated if they don't know the meaning of their history.
